Commissioning of the Cogeneration Unit at the Czeczott Heating Plant

The commissioning of the cogeneration unit at the Czeczott Heating Plant in Poland is an important example of how local heat sources are being modernised to achieve higher efficiency, greater operational flexibility, and lower emissions. The installation has completed the start-up phase and is now operating under normal conditions, providing stable supply parameters and predictable performance of the district heating network, even during changing load conditions.

The system is based on high-efficiency gas cogeneration technology. By producing heat and electricity at the same time, the plant can use fuel more effectively than in separate production. In practice, this type of unit works as the main heat source for most of the year. During peak demand or maintenance periods, it can be supported by additional peak or backup boilers. This approach increases security of supply, improves the overall energy balance, and makes system control easier.

From the perspective of energy transition, the project follows the wider trend of moving away from high-emission fuels toward solutions with a lower carbon footprint and higher total efficiency. This means lower consumption of solid fuels, reduced CO₂ and air pollutant emissions such as SO₂ and dust, and less combustion waste. At the same time, electricity production creates an additional revenue stream, which improves the economic performance of the plant.

The network infrastructure was also an important part of the project. Radpol Pipes supplied pre-insulated pipes in DN200/315 and DN125/225, equipped with #UVprotect casing designed for long-term outdoor exposure and high resistance to UV radiation. Prefabricated “Z” fittings and bends, produced according to the contractor’s requirements, helped to speed up installation, reduce on-site adjustments, and maintain consistent construction quality.

The general contractor for the project was Ferox Energy Systems Sp. z o.o. The Czeczott project shows how modern heat generation combined with durable, well-designed pipeline infrastructure can create a more efficient, reliable, and future-ready district heating system.
